Keijsers Koning is honored to have facilitated the acquisition of "Cosmic Rerun" by Kris Pierce for the permanent collection of the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, TX. (OJAC)
The acquisition Follows his solo show "Applause" at the gallery which took an investigative look into the "Modern Man" and its effect on the American ethos and friction of the I and the We culture. Pierce describes "Cosmic Rerun" as a video sculpture, broadcasting moments in time when these two collided; 60s suburbia vs hippiedom; 80s yuppie culture vs punk. The work's narrator acts as a futuristic all seeing eye;
The ideal self… My ideal self at least… You see… we are gathered here today…. In front of this mirror. Not unlike the mirror in your pocket. Chirping away, amid stock updates, news cycles, and buzzy alerts… each one… affirming your thingness. These alerts of affirmation sustain our aching sense of self. I look in the mirror and what do I see…Two big eyes staring out at me. Every breath, a cosmic thread, weaving life where I am led. (excerpt from the "Cosmic Rerun")
This hybrid of sculpture, painting, and digital media provides numerous entry points for engaging multigenerational audiences. Pierce participated in the OJAC's "Cell Series" in 2019-20 with his installation "A Ghost in the Attic."
This acquisition continues the OJAC's tradition and ongoing commitment of exhibiting and collecting works by artists with a Texas connection.
