Keijsers Koning is pleased to present “Applause” a solo exhibition by Kris Pierce. Presenting new works which will feature free standing sculptural work as well as a series of paintings and deals with the archetypes of individualism in our current western hemisphere.
Kris Pierce interest has always extended to the expression of individualism, from the alpha male to the influencer. These figures have become merits and pillars within the American identity. The exhibition, Applause, explores multigenerational themes including narcissism, social affirmation, and cultural insecurities, collapsed into works. As each work affirms these points as definitions in within the American ethos, it becomes entangled in the contemporary dialogue and value system. To address this value system Pierce uses historic and AI generated modernist source material and kitschy tokens of affirmation, each work is a synergy of these generational aesthetics and thoughts.
The works are hybrid forms including painting, sculpture, 3-D modeling, game engines, and computer-generated video. This body of work aims to reorient and reevaluate history’s coded definition of what it means to achieve “The American Dream," and how the notion of rugged individualism continues to expand and evolve today.
Pierce has exhibited internationally and nationally in museums, galleries, and public spaces, having had recent solo and group exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art; RL Window, Ryan/Lee, New York City; the Akron Art Museum, Ohio; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art / The Momentary, Bentonville, Arkansas; Hiroshima Art Center, Japan; CICA Museum, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; Galveston Arts Center; Gallerie Se Konst, Falun, Sweden; Reunion, Zurich, Switzerland; Blue Star Contemporary, San Antonio; and the Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas. Pierce received a BFA in Studio Art from the University of North Texas, Denton. His work is included in multiple public and private collections.
